Hallig for Mac

One key. Speak. The text is in the field.

Hallig runs in the menu bar. Tap your key or hold it down, then speak. The text lands where your cursor is blinking. It sits in the clipboard as well.

FOCUSED FIELD PASTED · CLIPBOARD

Free to try · No account · One-time purchase, no subscription

Anywhere a cursor blinks.

No extra window, no copying things around: Hallig writes straight into the app you are working in.

MAIL · MESSAGES · NOTES · DOCUMENTS · EDITOR · BROWSER

Not every app allows pasting. Secure input fields are one example. Your text still ends up in the clipboard, and Hallig tells you why.

How it works.

01

Press a key. A short tap starts recording and keeps it running. Holding records only while you hold. The right Command key is the default. You can pick any other.

02

Speak. The pill shows the recording. Your focus stays where it is.

03

Done. The text is in the focused field and sits in the clipboard as well.

Features.

Menu bar, not the Dock

One icon in the top right, a popover for a quick look. No Dock, no pile of windows.

A window when you want one

One window with a sidebar instead of scattered menus. It holds history, model catalog, language and settings.

History

Every dictation stays readable and is back in your clipboard with one click.

Your key

Freely changeable, so it never fights your shortcuts.

Microphone choice

Built-in mic or headset. You decide what records.

Updates inside the app

Hallig checks for new versions itself. Download, relaunch, carry on.

Languages and recognition.

Recognition What it is Size
Apple Speech Built in · Live preview
Parakeet TDT Runs on the Neural Engine · 25 European languages 625 MB
WhisperKit Most languages (99) 632 MB

On macOS 26, Apple Speech is the default, switchable to Parakeet or WhisperKit. On macOS 15, Hallig starts with Parakeet, switchable to WhisperKit. A model is downloaded once. After that the recognition runs without internet.

What goes online. And what never does.

Your dictations never leave the Mac. All three engines work on your device. Here is the full list of what Hallig goes online for.

Apple Speech downloads language assets from Apple when they are not on the Mac yet.

Parakeet and WhisperKit download their model once from Hugging Face. After that recognition needs no internet.

Hallig checks the Pro license online once at activation, then occasionally in the background. A dictation never waits for it.

The update check asks for new versions. It runs automatically in the background, and you can also start it by hand.

Hallig has no servers. No running costs for us means no subscription for you.

The Mac is its own purchase, separate from iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch. It does not come from the App Store but straight from the maker. The FAQ explains why.

Also on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch.

The same idea for the road, as its own purchase on the App Store. And the devices play together: speak on the Apple Watch, the iPhone transcribes. Universal Clipboard carries the text all the way to your Mac — your iPhone needs to be nearby.

Questions.

Why is Hallig not in the Mac App Store?

The Mac App Store requires the sandbox, and the sandbox blocks pasting into other apps. That is exactly what Hallig does. So it ships as a direct download from the maker, signed and notarized by Apple.

What happens offline?

Dictation works offline. Recognition runs on the Mac and needs no internet. Only three things need to be online: downloading new models, activating the license, checking for updates.

Where is my history stored?

Hallig keeps your history locally on your Mac. There is no server, no account and no sync. What you dictate stays with you.

Is the Mac version included in the iPhone purchase?

No, they are separate purchases. The iPhone version goes through the App Store, the Mac version through its own payment path. One purchase for both would need an account. Hallig has no accounts.

Which key starts the recording?

The right Command key starts recording by default. You can change it in the settings. A short tap starts and keeps it running. Holding records only for as long as you hold.

What if pasting does not work?

Hallig still puts the text in your clipboard when an app blocks pasting. Secure input fields are one case. The recording pill tells you why, and you can paste it yourself with ⌘V.

How do updates arrive?

Updates arrive right inside the app. Hallig checks for new versions in the background, and you decide whether to install. You can also check manually.

How many Macs does one purchase cover?

Three. One purchase covers your desktop, your MacBook and a third Mac. No second purchase, no account.

What if I buy a new Mac?

Deactivate the old one in settings, with "Deactivate this Mac". That frees the slot again. If you no longer have access to the old Mac, write to us. We will take care of it.
